We are currently working on a new electricity depot for the City of Cape Town in Hout Bay, Western Cape, which will service the surrounding areas. The project consists of a double storey concrete frame administration block, structural steel carports for the staff, a refuse area, as well as a guard house. Seismic action was taken into consideration, since the area falls in zone 1 of the seismic hazard zones of South Africa.

The slopes on the two sides of the site and in particular, the one to the north-west below the block of apartments, reside at their natural angles of repose and are subject to erosion and slumping on a fairly regular basis.

The placement of the buildings was planned carefully to ensure that no slumping of the slopes occurred which could have resulted in damaging the neighbouring properties.
