Woody’s are producers of cured and premium speciality meats for the South African commercial market. Their Western Cape production facility is situated in the Kraaifontein Industrial area. The entire production facility required to undergo a process of modernisation and optimisation through upgrades and extensions to the existing buildings and infrastructure.
NWE were appointed as the consulting Civil, Structural, Electrical and Mechanical engineers for the redevelopment of this 3 500m² building facility.
The structural work included the following:
- The existing portal frame steel structures that needed to be incorporated into the newly built steel and concrete structures. Cold room panels were fixed to these steel and concrete frames from the roof and the sides to produce an insulated cold room that can regulate temperatures ranging between 5° and -35°Celsius
- The reinforced concrete surface bed slabs that were designed to carry various loading ranging from 3.5t electric forklifts, 9.5m high mobile racking units to 350mᶟ water storage tanks
- A 13.5m high concrete and steel portal frame that was designed to accommodate the 9.5m high mobile racking to ensure maximised space usage by the client.
