Wouter has thirty six years’ experience in the fields of civil, municipal services, railway engineering and roads. He has been the Managing Director of an engineering consultancy since 1989.

Wouter has extensive experience in the planning, implementation and management of development projects, both as consultant and as a private developer in his own right. He has been involved with projects ranging from residential developments to commercial developments and office parks.

Wouter specializes in urban development project risk analysis and project financial viability modelling.

Michael Smuts

Areas of Professional Capability

Michael has substantial experience in the fields of project procurement, planning, design, contract and construction documentation, overall project supervision and project management, mainly in the area of urban engineering infrastructure and bulk civil engineering infrastructure projects, but he also has experience in sport and recreation facilities (natural and artificial turf) design and construction.

Michael also specialises in urban development project risk analysis and project financial viability modelling.

Michael is also the proud developer of NWE’s own intelligent project feasibility program.

Madeleine Visagie

Areas of Professional Capability

Madeleine has extensive experience in structural engineering services (feasibility studies, conceptual design, detail design, preparation of tender and contract documents, tender evaluation, construction supervision, quality assurance) for building projects such as: commercial and residential buildings (office blocks, residential high-rise buildings, auditoriums, schools, hospitals, hotels etc.), heavy industrial buildings for processing plants and other mining infra-structure and light industrial buildings (warehouses, factories, etc.)

She also has wide-ranging experience in the design of pre-stressed concrete bridges, steel structures for buildings in Antarctica and water treatment plants. Her experience as lecturer at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Pretoria has also equipped her in applied research in the development of affordable building materials.

Andries has ten years’ experience in electrical engineering services (feasibility studies, conceptual design, detail design, preparation of tender and contract documents, tender evaluation and construction supervision) for reticulation projects such as residential, commercial and buildings.

This includes experience in reticulation for the mining industry, pelletising plants, furnaces and power stations including but not limited to power generation, motor control centres and motor control.

Dawid Marais

During Dawid’s thirty eight years’ career he gained 12 years’ extensive experience in dam engineering and did the planning and design of the first roller concrete gravity arch dam in South Africa reaching the full dam height in the shortest construction period at that time. Since Dawid joint the firm he teamed up with a specialist consultant with 37 years extensive experience in dam engineering worldwide to mentor him and bring him up to date with the latest technologies of dam engineering.

In the consulting civil engineering industry he gained extensive experience in reports, tendering and contract documentation, project and quality management and construction administration and management. Dawid also prepared numerous successful feasibility studies and launched the First Presidential Resettlement Program in the Northern Cape and managed the project with 5 consulting engineers to install the municipal services. Dawid also gained extensive experience in pump lines – and pump stations designs, documentation, etc.

Jan is a professionally registered accountant and tax practitioner. After starting out in an auditing environment he went on to gain experience in financial management in various sectors.

He has gained most of his eleven years’ experience in the property development and consulting engineering environment. This includes the financial management of business in other African countries such as Zambia, Malawi and Ivory Coast.

Willem is a Professional Project Manager, in charge of the Project Management Division. He is also involved in general civil engineering projects as contracts manager/design engineer.

Willem has twenty seven years’ experience in general civil engineering infrastructure as well as built environment projects for both Private and Government clients locally, nationally, and internationally. Willem has been involved in the project management & design of a number of low cost housing developments, private residential developments and bulk & link engineering infrastructure master planning/construction projects over the last fifteen years. His technical design experience includes the design of civil services and municipal infrastructure (particularly hydraulic design – water supply modelling, planning and design) for commercial developments, municipal buildings & facilities, industrial zones and housing.

His design experience includes structures such as office blocks, multi-storey residential buildings, high-end homes/mansions, warehouses, depots, factories, processing facilities, etc. He has wide-ranging experience in utilizing reinforced concrete, structural steel, load bearing masonry and timber in the design of these structures.

He was involved in a number of projects for new housing developments, bulk water and sewer networks, rural access roads, earthworks platforms and building services. His duties include planning, design contract and construction tender documentation, overall project administration, supervision and project management.

His main areas of expertise include planning, design, tender documentation and project management on various civil engineering services like water, sewer, roads and stormwater networks and bulk civil services projects.

 

 

Renier Basson

Renier has fifteen years’ experience in the fields of project planning, civil engineering services design, contract & construction documentation, project & quality management (both as Contractor and Consultant) and construction administration mainly in the areas of urban engineering infrastructure and bulk civil engineering projects.

Renier specializes in the proper management of large urban engineering infrastructure projects. He fulfilled the role of Resident Engineer on numerous large civil engineering projects in South Africa and Zambia including an urban roads project in Zambia with a total value of R320 million.
